INTERPLANES

Interplanes captures trace and movement. It uses a combination of particles GPU and web camera to form point clouds. It also applies GyroOSC to affect the 3D camera and wind turbulence alongside RMS power from music for wider particles and bloom.

Song - Other Means by Batu

memory, point, cells

A memory takes on a dynamic existence. Its first state, held in the present, undergoes internalization, merging into individual collective memory—a mesh of non-linear influences. Recollected, it transforms, potentially edited by experiences. Its second state transitions into digital materiality, self-curated and merged for virtual realms. When looking back as future selves, our impressions of the memory evolve, a fluid interplay of time and experience. Even in a posthumanist state, do digital memories morph? Devoid from fixed truth, a memory is in constant, natural flux, transforming in its mesh.

Through code and particle simulation, Memory state cells presents a story of a travelling memory state. Drawing parallels to artificial life simulation of boids and cellular automata, it explores the parallels between organic and artificial forms of existence.

FIVE PHASES (五行)

Drawing inspiration from the pioneering female abstract artist, Hilma af Klint, and her spiritual and visual study of the four ages of man, Five Phases delves into the spiritual realm from an Eastern perspective. Through a digital and spatial interpretation, the work seeks to embrace the essence of Chinese mythology and practices. By intertwining the concepts of Wuxing, Yin and Yang, and the Red Thread of Fate, Five Phases seeks to symbolize the intrinsic connection and mutual reliance between life, phenomena and destiny. A highly practiced chinese philosophy, Wuxing (五行), often translated to Five Phases, represents the planets Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars and Venus. It aims to embody the pursuit of harmony and equilibrium of Wuxing through the interplay of water, earth, metal, wood, and fire elements.

PLAY! INSTALLATIONS @ A PUBLIC VOID DECK

A SERIES OF SERIOUS PARTIES aims to connect the local community with art in Singapore and spur on a deeper appreciation of void deck spaces and the games we used to play. It hopes to create a brief moment of respite, inspire young minds to re-look and reinvent childhood games, and allow creativity to be explored in a lighthearted setting. For 9 days, different musicians were invited to curate a set for passerbys, accompanied with a visual set by us.

BLUSH CONCERT VISUALS

Blush is a Singapore-based band that introduces a distinctive if abstract marriage of slowcore and contemporary indie rock, tied by the common thread of wistful bliss and offhand sentimentality.

The story is a winter tale of a girl living in a shadow village in Japan, as she goes through dark and ethereal encounters. Abstracted from Blush’s sound, the visuals are inspired by themes of transcendence, metamorphosis, rebirth, and enlightenment. A hint of calamity and aura was emphasized through the incorporation of recurring motifs such as light, shadows, skies, butterflies, and the cosmos, In keeping with Blush's sounds of distortion, the visuals also feature similar hints of blurriness and glitch.

GEYLANG STAXX: DAY FEST IN A FOUR-LEVEL SHOPHOUSE

Geylang Staxx is a day-festival at a multistoried shophouse boasting oral engagers, skin drawers, swell selectors and palette curators. With 7 sets ranging from local rap, breakbeat to techno, I created 7 visual sets to accompany each artist.

Mimi is an ecology researcher traveling to different worlds, collecting information about alien ecosystems. The visuals were broadcasted on analog and smart TVs across the four levels, telling a cohesive narrative at each level. The 7 sets included worlds made of clouds, ice, paramos, cybercities, forests, desert and the deep sea.

Audio-reactive 1950-60’s singapore archives

RIDIC CO-OP VOL.2 ushers Singapore’s national holiday in groove. Held in historical Pearl Hill Terrace, it bears reminders of Singapore’s turbulent post-war times and the operations carried out to maintain public order. Young Singaporeans are unaware of Singapore’s history so it was a great opportunity to evoke thought on the historical moments that led to the exact ground they were standing on today. One of my first live projects, I coded audio-reactive visuals, with images of aerial singapore in the yesteryears accompanied with lighthearted cultural images, hoping to spark conversation and sharing amongst partygoers

NIKE AIR MAX DAY: Visual Voice Generator

To celebrate Nike Air Max day, I worked with R/GA London on activating the German Nike fan community and boosting Nike’s socials.

A collaboration with GIPHY, I led the experience efforts in creating a fun and interactive voice generator that would generate a visual Instagram story full of curated gifs. Each video was a unique visual and voice generation based on the user’s voice responses.

NETFLIX: CCTV FACE DETECTION + VISUAL GENERATOR

R/GA worked with Netflix Korea for the launch of 6 Underground by helping the citizens of Seoul disappear. For the launch, there was a takeover of digital billboards and digital bus-stop posters along the top streets of Seoul - Gangnam, Samsung Station and DDM.

CCTVs were hijacked to broadcast detected passerby’s faces on the billboard analysing their presence and emotions. The website quiz analysed their online presence and identified whether they were a “ghost”/invisible or very present/visible on social media. The results would dictate the concealed glitch look on their picture and visually show how (un)concealed their faces would be if anyone tried to find them online. I led the website ux, quiz flow and structure.

DOTTY: 3D ART FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURES

Dotty is a product that aims to make individual climate-positive behaviour beneficial. Dotty wanted the mission to be expressed as a visual experience as much as a product solution. This meant a unique visual representation for each identity token for community participants. I came in to build the visual identity of each participant/user through generative 3D profile images with 14 layers and over 200 traits. The output was over 10,000 generative images, with not one the same.
